Canada Summer 2013: Westmount, Quebec

My home base for most of the Montreal visit was the wealthy enclave of Westmount. Notable Canadians such as former prime minister Brian Mulroney as well as the Molson and Bronfman families are current or former residents of Westmount and famous Canucks like Leonard Cohen were born there.

Westmount is majority English-speaking in Francophone Quebec. The signs and street names are in English, the homes and buildings wouldn't look out of place in London or Liverpool, and there is even a lawn bowling club!

It is worth visiting Westmount just to walk around and take in the regal-looking homes with their neatly manicured lawns. Every house is unique in design but each home has a stately and unpretentious quality to it that passes the test of time.

There are a few Bixi Montreal bikeshare stations in Westmount and it is an easy bike ride to downtown Montreal via De Maisonneuve Boulevard's bicycle path. The Guy-Concordia Metro station is a short bus ride and from there you have access to Montreal's modern, clean and efficient subway system.

Here are pictures of Westmount:
