New D.C. Cab Red and Silver Livery

Washington, D.C. wants to be like New York City with a taxi fleet painted the same color. Instead of yellow, D.C. taxis are slowly one by one switching to red and silver livery.

No More Names Rally to End Gun Violence at U.S. Capitol

This past September, only days after the mass shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., the organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns concluded its "No More Names" tour in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol with a rally for stronger gun safety laws to prevent another Newtown, Navy Yard and the gun violence that kills and injures more than 100,000 Americans every year.

ZooLights 2013

If you are in the nation's capital during the holiday season, definitely head on over to the National Zoo for the free ZooLights, which is an amazing nighttime lighting display that turns the Zoo into a magical winter wonderland.

Photos and Video: 50th Anniversary of March on Washington

On August 28, 2013, Washington, D.C. celebrated the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream Speech." It was a rainy day but there will still thousands of visitors lining the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and stretching as far back as the Washington Monument grounds to see the many speakers.

First D.C. Streetcar in 50 Years on Tracks for Testing!


After 50 years, streetcars will soon be operating again in Washington, D.C. The other day while biking around the H St. NE neighborhood, I witnessed the Czech-built streetcar on the tracks for testing that will take several months before the three new streetcars will start picking up passengers along the 2.4 mile route from Union Station through the revitalized H St. NE corridor to the Anacostia River.

Riding the Rails: Montreal to New York City


August 18, 2013 -- After spending time in the wonderful cities of Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa it was time to head back to the States. So I said au revior to Quebec, Canada and hopped aboard the Amtrak Adirondack train heading south from Montreal for the eleven hour journey to New York Penn Station.

August 17, 2013 -- After spending the day in Ottawa, I took the train back to Montreal, the subway back to the hostel I was staying at, changed clothes and headed to Saputo Stadium in Olympic Park -- the home of the Montreal Impact Major League Soccer club -- for an evening game against my hometown D.C. United.

Riding the Rails: Ottawa to Montreal


August 17, 2013 -- After spending the morning and early afternoon in Canada's clean and friendly capital city of Ottawa, Ontario, I took the VIA Rail Canada train back to Montreal. In order to get to the train station, I needed to take a bus rapid transit (BRT) -- Ottawa's bus system that runs on dedicated bus-only lines, thereby avoiding traffic and providing a fast and reliable ride in and around the city.
